History

The S-125 Newa (russian С-125 Нева, NATO-Codename: SA-3 GOA) is a radar guided surface to air rocket system with a two staged rocket, produced in the Sowjet Union. It was developed by the Isajew construction office and came into service in 1961 among the forces of the Warschauer Pakt

It was supposed be more agile and so on more effective against fast moving targets than the SA-2

The GPU is supplying the SAM site with electric power

Mobile Command Center on Truck

The command center operates the SAM site and recieves the orders. The launches are organized from there. It also contains the radar operators.

Launcher

The lauchers host and launch the rockets. The easiest way to identify a SAM visually is by knowing what the launcher with the rocket looks like. The SA-3 Launcher Hosts 4 Rockets.

SA-3 Search radar "Flat Face

The Flat Face search radar scans the airspace around the SAM site fpr enemy fighters and transmitts the contacts over to the track radar. Is able to provide bearing and range of airborne contacts up to 85 Nautical Miles.

SA-3 TRack Radar "Low Blow"

he Trackradar guides launches and the rockets after the launch. It only turns during the lock establishment and according to the fighters movements. Track range goes up to 22 Nautical Miles.
